# UT Bot v2 Settings Explained

> Reference for every UT Bot v2 input: Multipier, ATR Period, Source, backtest date range, and display options, with default values and usage notes.

To open the settings, hover over **UT Bot v2** in the chart's status line and click the **Settings** (gear) icon. The **Inputs** tab has three groups: **Config**, **Backtesting Range**, and **Display**.

## Config

These inputs control the trailing stop calculation. See [How It Works](https://docs.quantnomad.com/free-indicators/ut-bot-v2/how-it-works.md) for exactly how they're used.

| Setting | Description | Default | Usage notes |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Multipier** | Multiplier applied to ATR to set the trailing stop distance. Higher values create wider stops and fewer trend flips. Minimum 0.1, step 0.1. | `1` | The main sensitivity control. Raise it to reduce whipsaws; lower it for earlier, more frequent signals. |
| **ATR Period** | Number of bars used to calculate ATR. Minimum 1. | `10` | Shorter periods react faster to volatility changes; longer periods give a smoother stop distance. |
| **Source** | Price used for the trailing stop calculation and the crossover check. | `close` | `close` matches the classic UT Bot. Other options: open, high, low, hl2, hlc3, hlcc4, ohlc4. |

> [!NOTE]
>
> The multiplier input is labeled **Multipier** (sic) in TradingView. Look for that exact spelling in the settings dialog.

## Backtesting Range

These inputs only affect the strategy's simulated trades. They don't change the trailing stop, signals, or signal alerts.

| Setting | Description | Default | Usage notes |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Use Backtest Date Range** | Only place strategy orders between the start and end dates. | On | Turn off to backtest on all available history. |
| **Start Date** | First date strategy orders can be placed. | 2020-01-01 00:00 | Use to test a specific market period. |
| **End Date** | Last date strategy orders can be placed. | 2030-01-01 00:00 | Strategy orders, and **order fill** alerts, stop after this date while the range is on. |

## Display

| Setting | Description | Default | Usage notes |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Show Buy/Sell Signals** | Shows the Buy and Sell labels on the chart. | On | Hiding labels doesn't affect alerts or the strategy. |
| **Color Bars by Trend** | Colors price bars green in an uptrend and red in a downtrend. | Off | Useful for seeing the trend at a glance. |
| **Show Trailing Stop Line** | Shows the trailing stop line. | On | Colored green in an uptrend and red in a downtrend. |

Colors and line styles can be changed in the **Style** tab.

## Strategy properties

The **Properties** tab holds TradingView's standard strategy settings, such as initial capital, order size, commission, and slippage. UT Bot v2 doesn't override them, so TradingView's defaults apply, including **zero commission and slippage**. Set realistic values for your market before evaluating backtest results.

## Tuning tips

* **Start with the defaults** (`1` and `10`), then change one setting at a time.
* **Adjust Multipier first.** It has the biggest effect on how often the trend flips.
* **Tune per symbol and timeframe.** ATR is in price units per bar, so a setting that suits one chart won't necessarily suit another.
* **Avoid over-fitting.** Settings that look perfect on one stretch of history rarely stay perfect.
* **Recreate alerts after changing settings.** Existing alerts keep the settings they were created with.

See [ATR and Signal Sensitivity](https://docs.quantnomad.com/guides/atr-sensitivity.md) for more.

## Save your settings

To use your settings on every new chart, click **Defaults → Save as default** at the bottom of the settings dialog.
