# UT Bot v2 Buy and Sell Signals

> How to read UT Bot v2 buy and sell signals and the trailing stop line on a TradingView chart, and why signals only appear on closed bars.

UT Bot v2 shows two things on the chart: a **trailing stop line** that tracks the current trend, and **Buy** and **Sell** labels where the trend flips.

UT Bot v2 Buy and Sell labels and the trailing stop line

## What's on the chart

| Element | Appearance | Meaning |
| - | - | - |
| **Buy** | Green label with white "Buy" text, below the bar | Price closed above the trailing stop: the trend flipped to **up** |
| **Sell** | Red label with white "Sell" text, above the bar | Price closed below the trailing stop: the trend flipped to **down** |
| **Trailing stop line** | Green line below price, or red line above price | The current stop level. Green in an uptrend, red in a downtrend. |
| **Bar colors** (optional) | Green or red bars | Current trend, when **Color Bars by Trend** is on |

Exactly how a flip is calculated is covered in [How It Works](https://docs.quantnomad.com/free-indicators/ut-bot-v2/how-it-works.md).

## Signals appear on bar close

UT Bot v2 only generates a signal once the bar has **closed**. That means:

* You won't see a label on the bar that's still forming, even if price is currently beyond the stop.
* A label, once shown, doesn't disappear or move.
* Signal [alerts](https://docs.quantnomad.com/free-indicators/ut-bot-v2/alerts.md) fire at the close of the signal bar.

The trailing stop line on the forming bar still updates with live prices. Watching the live price against the line shows you whether a flip is *likely* at the close, but it isn't a signal until the bar closes.

> [!TIP]
>
> On higher timeframes, waiting for the close can mean a signal arrives well after price first crossed the line. That's the trade-off for signals that don't disappear. See [Confirmed vs Unconfirmed Signals](https://docs.quantnomad.com/guides/confirmed-signals.md).

## Reading signals in context

A signal means price has moved more than the stop distance against the previous trend. It doesn't guarantee the new trend will continue.

* **Trending markets.** Signals tend to be spaced out, and the stop follows the trend.
* **Ranging markets.** Price can cross the stop repeatedly, producing *whipsaws*: alternating Buy and Sell signals in quick succession.
* **Sensitivity.** A larger **Multipier** produces fewer, later signals; a smaller one produces more, earlier ones. See [Settings](https://docs.quantnomad.com/free-indicators/ut-bot-v2/settings.md).

Many traders combine signals with other information, such as the higher-timeframe trend or key price levels. See [Understanding Indicator Signals](https://docs.quantnomad.com/guides/indicator-signals.md).
